Munster Grab the Interprovincial Junior Veterans Title:
On Friday & Saturday last Munster took on the might of the other provinces in the 2011 Interprovincial series at Sunday Well in Cork. With three Hillview players on the squad, Des Dillon, Trudy Kennedy and Martin Ormond it was going to be a cracking encounter with Munster hoping to reclaim the trophy they won last year for the first time in ten years. Des produced Champaign tennis, as only he can, even coming back after a long layoff with injury, and moping up singles point for the province. Trudy had some great doubles battles, gaining valuable points and loosing only to a very strong Leinster pair with local castleview player Julienne Anne O’Neill. Martin, on his debut, scorched the earth with three dramatic singles wins, that had the venue hopping and the Munster supporters on their feet urging him on when in his final singles against Roy Bailey of Leinster, it came all the way down to a championship tie-break with Martin sweeping to victory by 10-7. Munster won the series on 35 points with Leinster on 33points. A day to remember for all the team and the oldest Hillview supporter Mr John Cooney who travelled to give them his best advice!
