Club Championships 17th Oct to 22nd:
Great evening of tennis last Saturday night as the Club Championship fever reached a peak when all the combatants headed for the courts. Singles took centre stage for the first series of matches. The main significant prize for the Championship of the club was the premier gent’s finals between Des Dillon and James Neylon (for the Roche Cup). It lived up to the expectations when a sweltering first set headed into a tie break. Point after point was matched by each player with great technical skills and anticipation. In the end James took this to a 10-8 win and started well in the second set which again produced fantastic tennis with James again edging it over Des. Other notable winners this year were Margaret Foley and Paul Garret who joined James Neylon in winning their singles and adding a doubles/mixed to their trophy chest. Full results are on http://ti.tournamentsoftware.com. Planet Playground was this year’s new sponsor and many thanks to Eddie Ahearn who presented the new 2011 Champions with their prizes.
