The Condon Cup

The Condon Cup takes place next Sunday 18th May. This is always an enjoyable event with great games guaranteed. Closing date for entries is Thursday 15th May. So its not too late to get your name down!

Open Americans

Last Friday, May 9th,  saw the first of the open americans for this season. After some breath taking tennis and very close matches, Dave Johnson and Christine Hickey ended up on equal points with Brian Cleary and Dolores Butler. After a thrilling and exciting playoff, Brian and Dolores emerged the winners. The first open american of the Summer had all the ingredients of why this is such a popular event, great weather, fun tennis and great craic.   The open americans continue on Fridays, so come along and get your names in by 7.15 on the night.

Interfirms Tennis

The Hillview Interfirms Tennis Tournament came to a climax on Saturday, April 26th, last when 18 teams did battle in the finals. Six hours of torrid tennis, played in ideal weather conditions, eventually yielded the winners after some excellent displays of skill, tenacity and sheer guts. It was a brilliant fortnight of friendly fun tennis for all the participants who gave their all for their respective companies. Many thanks to all the "Firms" who once again supported this major sporting event on the Clonmel social calendar. The sponsors were Mr. Binman (main sponsor), MSD & Bulmer's. Mr Joe Cleary of Mr Binman, speaking at the prize giving, said his firm were very impressed by the competition and were delighted to be associated with its sponsorship. The club hopes to see all the participants again next year.

American Open Season.
Friday, May 9th, will see the start of this years Open American season for club members. All active tennis players are encouraged to participate and all grades will be accommodated. This is a great way to start your weekend with a friendly competitive sporting event and a bit of craic. Make it a date.
Condon Cup.
The date for this day cup is Sunday, 18th of May and the entry sheet will be posted, so keep this date free.
Munster Summer Cups
Entries are been sought for selection in teams to participate in the 2008 season of Munster Branch Summer Cups. The teams are generally entered from grades 3 to 6, if numbers are sufficient. We have had some great wins in these knock-out cups in recent years. See board for details soon.

Shanley Easter Doubles Results

The above named competition took place on Friday 21st March last.  We would like to thank Tim Shanley for his continued support of table tennis in Hillview.  Once again, this competition received a great turnout from members.  The results are as follows: Division One winners were Patsy Hassett & John Fitzgerald, Runners-up were Anthony Powell & Noel Prendergast, Third were Simon Simecek & Jiri Valicek, Fourth were Bryan Byrne & Stephen O’Reilly and Fifth were Tom Noonan & Peter Powell.  Division Two Winners were David Hannon & David Grace; Runners-up were John Cooney & Philip O’Reilly, Third were Anne Power (Eoughan Corcoran) & Maurice Walsh, Fourth were Joseph Kiely & Stephen Quirke and Fifth were John Hannon & Tim Shanley.  Division Three Winners were Enda Phelan & Paula Quinn; Runners-up were Laura O’Hanrahan & Margaret Hassett, Third were Mai Harte & Aileen Madden and Fourth were Aidan Burke & Naoimh Herlihy.  Congratulations to all.

Next Competition:

The next table tennis competition will take place on Friday 4th April.  The closing date for entries will be Thursday 3rd April at 9.00p.m.  The entry fee will be €5.00 per-person.  The entry sheets are on the notice board in the Hallway and Badminton Hall.  Open to all Club Members.  Players of all standards are very welcome.  Come along and have some fun.
