Juvenile Tennis

During the May bank holiday weekend the following junior tennis players took part in the canon Hayes Open Week in Tipperary town, Cian Whelan, Shay Whelan, Gavin Lonergan, Ciara Lonergan, Shane Lonergan, Jane O'Gorman, Molly Kenny, Ciara Ryan, Aoife Hanrahan, Niamh Hanrahan, Grace Durkan, David Garrett, Liam Powell and Morgan Irwinn.
The players took part in the U12 and U14 categories.
This was the first time for most of the players competed outside Hillview. They acquitted themselves with great credit and a special mention must go to Ciara Lonergan and Jane O'Gorman who won the girls doubles U12 title. Jane was also runner up in the girls under 12 singles. In the boys under 12 competition, Hillview were also successful with Shay Whelan and Shane Lonergan putting in a huge effort to win the title, 10-7 in the super tie break.
Aoife Hanrahan and partner Lauren McGuiree were runners up in the girls u14 double. This was a remarkable effort by the girls considering they had never played together before this event. Grace Durkin showed her class by winning the u14 girls singles.
A special thansk to the parents of the players who took time out of their busy schedules to lend support to all the players involved. This showed great commitment and spirit.

Finally thanks to all the players whose level of play and commitment can only bode well for Hillview tennis. Well done to all. The junior tennis programme enters its final block of lessons before the summer holidays, the focus of which will be tournament play and tactics.
On Wednesday the 7th May, Vivien Levie organised a Junior Open American. This was very well supported with 21 players entering. Two competitions, a singles and doubles event were played. These were round robin format and all players got lots of matches. In the singles event, Cian Whelan  came through and in the doubles, Stephanie Quaide and Shay Whelan secured first place. All in all, a great mornings tennis, wonderful competition and plenty of fun.
